La Academia de Ciencias y Artes Cinematográficas de Estados Unidos, que otorga el Oscar, aspira en su 95 edición celebrar lo mejor del séptimo arte, pero también dejar atrás la bofetada de Will Smith a Chris Rock, que le dio la vuelta al mundo.
La ceremonia se llevará a cabo este domingo en el Dolby Theatre de Los Ángeles y podrá verse, desde las 9:00 p.,m., por ABC. La producción, a cargo de Ricky Kirshner y Glen Weiss, contará con presentaciones musicales de Rihanna, Sofia Carson, Diane Warren, David Byrne, Son Lux, Rahul Sipligunj y Kaala Bhairavaprevious.
La cinta de ciencia ficción Everything Everywhere All At Once, se perfila como la gran favorita y lidera las nominaciones con 11, incluyendo mejor película, dirección, actriz y guión original. En su camino al Oscar, ha sido nombrada mejor película por el Critics Choice Association, Directors Guild of America, Hollywood Critics Association, Producers Guild of America y Screen Actors Guild.
Su protagonista, Michelle Yeoh, se convirtió en la primera mujer asiática en ser nominada en la categoría de mejor actriz. Se espera que entre la protagonista de Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon o la doble ganadora del premio Oscar, Cate Blanchett (Tár), esté la ganadora de la reñida categoría. Blanchett busca el tercer Oscar, tras ser premiada por su trabajo en Blue Jasmine y Aviator.
Mientras tanto, la actriz Angela Bassett, una de las favoritas en la categoría de mejor actriz de reparto por su trabajo en Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, podría hacer historia y otorgarle al universo cinematográfico de Marvel Studios, su primera estatuilla en una categoría de actuación. Bassett fue nominada anteriormente por su trabajo en el filme What’s Love Got To Do (1993).
Por su parte, el compositor John Williams, podría convertirse en la persona de mayor edad (90 años) en ganar un Oscar. El maestro recibió su nominación número 53 por la banda sonora del filme The Fabelmans. A su vez, Steven Spielberg, quien obtuvo su novena nominación a mejor director por la misma cinta, podría convertirse en el director de mayor edad (76 años) en ganar la categoría. Al momento, el récord le pertenece a Clint Eastwood, quien lo hizo a los 74 años por Million Dollar Baby.
Por otro lado, por primera vez en la historia de los premios, en la categoría de mejor actor, todos aspiran por primera vez. Brendan Fraser (The Whale) y Austin Butler (Elvis) batallan por la codiciada estatuilla.
Mientras tanto, el galardón a mejor actor de reparto, película animada y efectos visuales, tienen casi seguros ganadores. Ke Huy Quan debe ganar por su actuación en Everything Everywhere All At Once, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio debe conseguir victoria en película animada, y la secuela Avatar: The Way of Water, debe coronarse como reina de los efectos visuales.
Por último, Netflix podría por fin ganar el Oscar de mejor película con All Quiet on the Western Front. El filme en alemán, recibió nueve nominaciones, incluyendo mejor película y mejor película internacional. Con filmes como Roma, The Irishman y The Power of the Dog, Netflix por poco consigue el gran premio.
