La 94 edición del Óscar este domingo, marca la conclusión de la extensa época de premios en Hollywood, todavía trastocada por la pandemia de covid-19. Sin embargo, estos Premios de la Academia de Ciencias y Artes Cinematográficas de Estados Unidos, podían hacer historia en diversos renglones y los boricuas se perfilan como protagonistas.
Ariana DeBose, de padre puertorriqueño, es la favorita para ganar la categoría de mejor actriz de reparto por su trabajo en West Side Story, de Steven Spielberg. De lograrlo, haría historia ganando en la misma categoría en que lo hizo en 1962 la boricua Rita Moreno, por el mismo papel de Anita, una inmigrante puertorriqueña en Nueva York.
Cabe destacar que solo hay dos parejas que han ganado Óscar por interpretar el mismo papel: Marlon Brando (The Godfather) y Robert De Niro (The Godfather Part II) con Vitor Corleone, mientras que Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) y Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) con Joker. Pero, lo hicieron como mejor actor y actor de reparto. De conseguir la victoria, DeBose y Moreno no tan solo lograrían hacerlo en el mismo rubro, sino que serían las primeras mujeres en conquistar dicha hazaña.
Mientras que Guillermo Martinez, nacido y criado en Bayamón, podría alzarse con su primer Óscar, si su producción, The Mitchells Vs. The Machines, gana la categoría de mejor película animada. Martínez se desempeñó como el Head of Story en la cinta de Sony Pictures, figura a cargo de ayudar al director y guionista a traducir el libreto en dibujos.
Por su parte, el dramaturgo de descendencia boricua Lin-Manuel miranda, logró su segunda nominación al Óscar y buscará ganar mejor canción original con “Dos Oruguitas”, de la cinta animada de Disney, Encanto. De cargar con el hombrecito dorado, lograría además el estatus de EGOT – que también ostenta Moreno – como recipientes del premio Emmy, Grammy, Oscar y Tony, respectivamente.
La ceremonia será transmitida el domingo, a partir de las 8:00 pm por ABC y buscará recuperar una audiencia en decadencia. Las anfitriones para esta gala serán Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer y Regina Hall, mientras que la producción estará a cargo de Will Paker (Girls Trip).
Entre las múltiples películas que intentarán llevarse a casa la estatuilla a lo mejor del cine se encuentra el drama de Netflix, The Power of the Dog, que lideró el grupo con 12 nominaciones, incluyendo mejor película, director y guión adaptado. Mientras tanto, la épica de ciencia ficción Dune, buscará ganar en 10 categorías, incluyendo mejor cinematografía, banda sonora y efectos visuales.
