El filme The Shape of Water se llevo un total de cuatro (4) premios Oscars durante la ceremonia nonagésima celebrada durante la noche de ayer. Entre los premios que ganó el filme se encuentran el más importante, mejor película, como también mejor director para el cineasta Guillermo Del Toro, diseño de producción y mejor banda sonora para Alexandre Desplat.
En las categorías de actuación, Gary Oldman muy merecidamente se llevó la estatuilla de mejor actor por su majestuosa actuación en el filme Darkest Hour y la actriz Frances McDormand ganó mejor actriz por su trabajo en Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Por otra parte los actores Sam Rockwell y Allison Janney fueron premiados como mejores actores de reparto por su trabajo en Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri y I, Tonya respectivamente. El filme de guerra Dunkirk terminó con (tres) 3 premios. (mejor edición, mejor mezcla de sonido y mejor edición de sonido)
El popular ex jugador de la NBA Kobe Bryan añadió un premio Oscar a su impresionante resume de logros por su corto animado llamado Dear Basketball, la cual ganó el premio de mejor corto animado.
